The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds in the Central, Northern and Northcentral provinces and in the Ratnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. on July 5, remains valid until 11.00 a.m. on July 6, with winds of about 40 to 50 kmph expected at times due to active south-west monsoon conditions.
