Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association President Steven Thiru warned that Sri Lanka could face a crisis of judicial legitimacy if it extends the retirement age of sitting superior court judges without broad consultation. Speaking at a BASL public forum, he said constitutional changes affecting the judiciary should be transparent and should not appear to benefit sitting judges or influence court composition.
