A special operation began on July 3 to speed up reconstruction of the Kandy-Colombo main railway line between Kadugannawa and Rambukkana, which was badly damaged by Cyclone Ditwah. Two rail carriages carrying communication equipment and construction materials were moved by road from Kandy to Peradeniya using a locally manufactured heavy-duty transport truck, with plans also being made to move a locomotive as repair work continues.
