All arrangements have been finalised to launch a national programme to conserve 1,000 archaeological sites across Sri Lanka alongside Archaeology Week, which begins on July 7. Deputy Minister Gamagedara Dissanayake said the first phase will start work on 100 identified sites and that community conservation committees will be established around the sites to support excavation, research and conservation with technical guidance from the Department of Archaeology.
