The Colombo Law Society urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake not to proceed with any constitutional amendment to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges. In a July 2 letter, the Society said changes affecting the tenure of sitting superior court judges should be handled only after broad consultation because they could create public concern and undermine confidence in judicial independence.island
