Health officials warned that some children are developing complications even after recovering from dengue as hospitals see increased cases. Consultant paediatrician Dr. Deepal Perera said rare complications can affect the brain, muscles and heart, and advised parents to seek medical evaluation if fever persists beyond the usual recovery period or if children fail to regain appetite and activity. The National Dengue Control Unit reported 57,668 dengue cases so far this year, with the highest number in the Western Province.
