Sri Lanka’s unemployment rate edged down to 3.7% in the first quarter of 2026 from 3.8% a year earlier, according to the Department of Census and Statistics Labour Force Survey. The labour force participation rate eased to 49.2%, while the survey estimated 311,495 unemployed people; female unemployment remained above male unemployment and youth joblessness stayed elevated.
