The World Bank has reclassified Sri Lanka as an upper-middle-income economy, returning the country to the category four years after its economic crisis.
The World Bank has reclassified Sri Lanka as an upper-middle-income economy, returning the country to the category four years after its economic crisis. The classification released on July 1 cited a recovery supported by stronger output across industry, manufacturing, financial services and tourism, with the World Bank noting that Sri Lanka's real GDP grew by 5 percent in 2025.
